PROJECTS

LAND USE AUDIT

In 2007 GDS conducted a land use audit exercise at Brufut Heights for the Gambia Tourism Authority. GDS digitized GTA's hard copy layout plan and ownership information and built-up status records to determine which parcel is unoccupied or empty.

PARCEL MAPPING

Since 2009 GDS used the latest high resolution satellite imagery to digitize over 100,000 parcels nationwide, about 80,000 in Greater Banjul Area and Kombo.  In addition, GDS compiled a geodatabase of public facilities (schools, roads, and health centers) , transportation network and other demographic data for GBA and Kombo.

GIS TRAINING AT NATIONAL STATISTICS OFFICES

Since 2011 GDS conducted a series of training in the use of GIS in Census and Survey mapping at the Gambia Bureau of Statistics (GBoS) and Statistics Sierra Leone (SSL).  Topics covered included components of GIS concepts, data structures and formats, georeferencing and coordinate systems, digitizing and editing spatial data and cartographic techniques and map making.
