GDS specializes in the applications of geospatial technologies, specifically remote sensing (RS), drone mapping, geographic information systems (GIS), and global positioning systems (GPS) in population and environment studies. GDS provides a wide range of consultancy and technical services including land use & land cover mapping, institutional capacity assessment, specialty mapping & cartographic services, and ArcGIS & QGIS software training.
Dr. Malanding Jaiteh, Principal Consultant
Dr Jaiteh has a PhD in Forest Science with over two decades experience in the applications of geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sending (RS) technologies in human-environment studies. Dr. Jaiteh spent 17 years in research and teaching GIS at the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN), the Earth Institute at Columbia University.
For over 10 years Dr. Jaiteh taught the applications of GIS at the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), the Mailman School of Public Health and the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Biology. As GIS Specialist Dr. Jaiteh worked on numerous projects including NASA's Socioeconomic and Data Application Center (SEDAC) ; The Nature Conservancy (TNC) Hudson River Restoration Project; CIESIN's Human Footprint and Last of The Wild; The US Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Natural Resource Protection Indicator; USAID Planning for Resilience in East Africa through Policy, Adaptation, Research and Economic Development (PREPARED) project; and conducted capacity building in geospatial technologies in Africa.
